What to Look for in a Realtor
Selling or buying a home is an exciting opportunity, make sure you have the right agent on your team! Much like every other profession in the world, we know that not all are created equal in what they do. Below we are going to give you some things to look for and questions to keep in mind when searching for a Realtor and some RED FLAGS you want to keep an eye out for!
😀 Good Reviews! Always, always, always go and read reviews thoroughly!
😀 Experience! Are you working with a new agent or an experienced agent? If you’re working with a new agent, that’s okay. Choose the person, not their experience.
😀 Happy to answer your questions! They should also get back to you in a timely matter.
😀 Selling or buying a house is stressful, is your agent personable? Will he/she be able to deal with your stress?
😀 The agent is familiar with the area you are looking in! Do they live in the area or have the sold properties in the area. Understand, they don’t need to know the area like the back of their hand but being familiar with the neighborhood goes a long way.
😀 They want to build a relationship, it’s not all just about WORK & MONEY.
🚩 Your questions seem like a bother! This is not okay! You should be open to ask questions and not feel like you’re bothering them!
🚩 It should not take a long time for you to get a response. Your time is important! It is important for you to feel comfortable, and a priority. Even if they are busy, a good agent can make this happen.
🚩 People before work. Your agent should want you to get a good property that you love. It’s not just about the money.
🚩 Everything is not going to be perfect. If your agent is setting unrealistic expectations. You may want to continue your search.
🚩 They don’t stick to your budget. If your agent keeps showing you houses that are higher than your budget, it’s time to find an agent that is going to better understand your expectations.
🚩 You’re not always going to hear what you want. There will be good & bad. Some agents will just tell you what they think you want to hear.
It all comes down to, is your agent a good person? Do they seem genuine? If you feel that your agent isn’t the best for you, GO WITH YOUR GUT FEELING! Start looking for a new agent that better fits your needs. It is helpful for any agent you work with to come prepared, write down what you’re looking for, know your budget, if you have no idea about either item they can help.
